Spring-Ford JV Boys pullout a win over Pope John Paul II

Posted On: Friday, April 11, 2014

After a competitive game with Pope John Paul II High School on Thursday, the Spring-Ford Rams Boys’ JV Tennis Team pulled out an exciting and well-deserved win.  The sunshine and warm temperatures made a great day for tennis.  However, the constant winds did make ball control a little more difficult.  “Controlling the ball is something we definitely need to work on.” said freshman Anthony Dabbundo, with his partner Freshman Corey Gill agreeing after a tough loss of 3-8 at No. 3 doubles.

Another improvement that the team believes they need to make is their shot accuracy.  As I saw myself, the boys have the power no doubt, but placement was slightly off for the day.

Still, the Rams managed a close win by beating the Panthers 3-2 with the first five JV teams.  Both No. 1 and No. 5 doubles came out with a very tight match of 9-7 Spring-Ford.  No. 1 doubles pair Tyler McEvoy and Jake Mathew had the most intense match of the day.  The two took the lead at 2-1.  However, a few mistakes let Pope John Paul slip in and gain a large lead of 6-2.  Even after five losses, McEvoy and Mathew persisted and pushed through with strong cross-court shots and volleys.  The pair regained momentum and quickly caught up to their oppenents, letting them win only one of the next six games.  With the score 7-7, tensions were high for both teams.  Continuing on their streak, McEvoy and Mathew pulled out the two wins needed to get the overall JV win.  their final score 9-7.

The determination of the whole team and coaching by the dedicated Coach Reinheimer made for a successful day.  Congrats to the Spring-Ford Boys JV Tennis Team on their win and here’s to the rest of the season!
